About

hi there, i'm laura

Hello!  My name is Laura, and I am so thankful you are here!  a foster and adoptive Mama to four beautiful children, wife to Samuel, and God’s servant.  (In reverse order)  I love animals, dressing up in just about anything, and all of God’s beautiful creation.  I am truly honored to be here with you, and pray each time I sit down to write that God will lead me to what YOU need.

My heart lies with children and families in need.  I am a strong supporter of fostering the whole family, and feel such joy when a family can be reunited after foster care.  And, being an adoptive mom, I know the beauty of adoption as well.  There is such a great need for more foster families, and people willing to help foster families, so I advocate for this any chance I can!  Check out my posts on foster care and adoption for more on this.

While I am always continuing to learn, I know one of God’s purposes for me includes helping other parents of children with trauma.  I am certified to teach Trauma Competent Caregiving, and a variety of other trainings for foster and adoptive parents.  I offer online trainings, as well as parent coaching and support.  I know the value in having a community who understands what you and your kiddos are going through, and I am here to offer that to you.  I pray it helps!

I am also a very strong advocate for ending racism.  While I, as a white woman, can not possibly know all there is to know on this topic, I very much believe in using my privileged voice to speak up.  I have a group on Facebook for people who want to take action against racism, and the group is full of real, tangible ways to help.  Click on the Ending Racism tab to learn how you can get involved.  Your voice matters!

Lastly, I just really love to laugh at myself, the humorous situations our family finds ourselves in, and the everyday days of parenthood.  I love to write about all things us moming (from organization, to cooking, to “why is there a sock in the dog’s water dish?!”), so there’s a bunch of that too, in the Just for Fun section.

story behind c2c

Every single one of you was created with a purpose.

One night, I had a dream (don’t all good and crazy stories start out like this?) that I was speaking in front of hundreds of people, proposing that they purchase houses for impoverished families in Africa.  I remember saying, “You may not be able to build a house, but you can buy one!”  And the idea was born.

Everyone has something to offer!

Have you heard the saying, If you can’t adopt, foster.  If you can’t foster, sponsor.  If you can’t sponsor, volunteer.  If you can’t volunteer, donate.  If you can’t donate, educate.”

It’s along this idea this blog was born.  Everyone can do something as long as they know about need, and know what to do to meet it.

Created to Care was developed to advocate, encourage, and support you so we can work together to make the world a better place.

I invite you to join me in this mission:

God, please give me your eyes to see the vulnerable and hurting people around me, both near and far.  Show me the skills you gave me to take action, and the courage to do so.  Help me lay down my burdens, pick up your cross, and serve your people.  Send me, I am willing.
